It finally happened Monday night on Raw. Daniel Bryan officially announced his retirement in a heartbreaking speech. Bryan revealed earlier in the day via Twitter that he would be retiring on Raw and he went into a little more detail once he got into the ring.

After taking a few minutes to get settled in, Bryan revealed that he had been undergoing tests in hopes that he could get cleared to return to the ring but WWE wouldn’t clear him. Bryan referenced the fact that he’s had many concussions throughout his career. He said that he thought he was in better condition than he actually is and after getting some recent information about his health, he’s decided retirement is the right move.

Bryan also said that the reason why he cut his beard is because he wanted to cut his hair and he thought he would look silly with short hair and a long beard. He then went on for several minutes just talking about how grateful he is to have had such a wonderful career. Bryan said that tomorrow he will have to deal with the fact that he’s no longer a wrestler. But that he can still enjoy while he’s in the ring. He asked for one last “Yes!” chant toe end the show and the crowd delivered.

After Raw went off the air the celebration continued on the WWE Network where Daniel Bryan walked around and met with audience members. The WWE roster, including Vince McMahon then came out to greet Bryan on the stage before he went to the back.

Bryan’s retirement speech had a lot of heart and a lot of humor, but it was tough to watch. It’s never easy when you have to see somebody hang up the boots before they’re ready and it definitely seems like Daniel Bryan had a lot more to give. It’s a shame that his career is over but we are lucky that he was able to have such a great run in the WWE and that he delivered so many excellent matches over the years.

Best of luck to you Daniel Bryan in whatever it is that you do next. The wrestling world just won’t be the same without you.

#ThankYouDanielBryan
